LONG day at Primary Childrens!!!
Posted by: Bon
We decided life was too dull and mundane, so we thought we’d take a trip to the ER around 10:00 am Sunday morning to bring some excitement back into our lives.

Here is the Story:
We were at church out in the lobby during sacrament meeting, and Savannah had been sitting my my side and she said to me “Mommy, everything is blurry, and some went black!”
I looked at her, and saw she was not playing. She had an odd look on her face, slightly amused and slightly worried.

So I was able to talk to Alisha and she fixed everything for my primary class, and we took her home. I called the on-call doctor at her pediatricians office and told her all about how she’s been having head aches and tummy aches every since her tonsils were taken on on Nov 17th, and she was treated for a severe sinus infection a couple weeks back, and the head aches continued.
And now she is suddenly having vision problems. The on-call told us to take her right to Primary Children’s Hospital!
So, Mark having had dizzy spells that day stayed home with Kiera, My mom went up with me to the Hospital.
I cant even start to say how nice it was to have her there with us! It was not only WONDERFUL to have one of Savannah’s most favorite people there with her, but she also picked up where I slacked in the memory department! The doctors would come in and say something, then we’d call family to give updates, and I’d say “The doc came in and said they wanna do a ….what was it mom?” So without her, I would have been Really SOL!
She was GREAT to have!!

She started out just getting an exam on neurological function; hand eye coordination and a Simple eye exam!
He did other simple exams to rule smaller things out. He was Great with wanting to not Rush into Lots of scans and tests that might be unnecessary!
So, after talking with us a lot, and doing simple exams, he decided that he felt no need for a CAT scan or an MRI at this point, and that it could wait till she could get into her Doctor, then set up an appt with an eye specialist. But, after talking with us more, and finding out that she’s had the head aches for 3 months he decided to go a different route!
He called in a doctor at the Moran Eye Center.(it might be prudent to add that No one was at the eye center on sundays, but they GOT HIM IN for THIS)
The building is attached to the hospital, and got us Right over there. This Dcc did what seemed like MILLIONS of exams! He did exams that I’d never seen before! It was Very interesting! And my mom and I sat there and watched, and he was doing one test where he had her cover one eye, and then hold fingers up as he moved his hand around different parts of her vision while she kept her eyes on one spot. Well, he reached a part of the peripheral vision where she couldnt see his fingers AT ALL! And he actually did that same thing over and over, holding up different fingers, wiggling his hand, and she kept saying “Cant see it, Cant see it”. So we could tell this was not normal. There was another one that was odd too, where she was reading a Large print, with one eye and the letters were ALL the same size, and large, and she could only see half of them!!! That made my mom and I just Stair at each other!

Then the doctor told us that he did not feel comfortable sending us home! And he said he was going to call ahead and schedule an MRI for as soon as possible!

So we started back on our way back to the ER, (and this is where I was also grateful for my mom) My mom had us stop at the cafeteria and we all ate. Then we went back into the ER. (I was grateful for this)
Then this WONDERFUL Nurse lady named Beth came in. Her SOLE Job is to help the kids there be happy and comfortable! She brought in a “Hospital buddy” and the lady helped Savannah put an IV into the Dolls arm, just like the one they were putting in Savannah’s arms. And they put all the wraps on it too, and She had Savannah pick out a hospitol gown for it too!
Then she left a bucket of Markers for her to decorate, and put a face on, her “Hospital buddy”!

This lady ROCKED!!!!
She was in and out all day! Bringing us drinks, a TV, then a choice of Movies, and just anything we could think of, even pestering the doctors and nurses for us to make sure she got what she needed in good time!
She was WONDERFUL!

Long story made….well a little shorter, after 14 hours we got to go home. (Got there around 10am, left at midnight)
The MRI was inconclusive because she moved just a touch and it made it so they couldn’t tell. BUT… they said that it looked like the right optic nerve looked like it might have had inflammation on it. But because she moved a little, they needed to do it again, under sedation!
They couldnt do it that night because the people in charge of sedation wasnt in any more. This was around 10:30ish or so.

So, around 10:30ish My mom and I started getting SUGAR from the cafeteria: Doughnuts, slushies, candy bars, Root beer, pretzel & cheese & I cant remember what else. But, we started munching all that, and around 11:00 we both got Very Slap-Happy! We started talking about how the carbonation was making me Burp REALLY BIG ONE like Crazy!!! And my guess is that carbonation mixed with having an exhausting day, made For a VERY Slap-Happy hour! We were SO Giggly! We were Out of control, eyes crying, cant breath, & tummy getting sore LAUGHING! It was late, had been a LONG day, and we were FULL of sugar!
Good Times!!!

The doctor sent us home with her IV still in, and had us come back at 9 am for the other MRI.

Now, Monday, that I am home from the other MRI, Savannah is VERY groggy, still trying to wake up from the meds, and we SHOULD find out later today!

So she is resting, and should be groggy for at least half the day!

So for now, thats all we have!!!!

Check back later for updates!
